Press statement from Eylem Tok, who smuggled her son abroad after he was involved in a fatal accident

In Istanbul's Eyüpsultan district, a driver who hit a group that had stopped on the emergency lane to check an ATV that had broken down with a luxury SUV fled the scene.

Oğuz Murat Avcı died in the accident, and 4 people were injured. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident turned out to be 16-year-old T.C., the son of author Eylem Tok and the famous aesthetic surgeon Op. Dr. Bülent Cihantimur.

Arriving at the scene to pick up her son, mother Eylem Tok left the country with him around 04:30 at night and fled to Egypt.

Following the emergence of footage showing their departure from the country, a press statement has been released by author Eylem Tok, whose statement was awaited with curiosity.

To the Attention of the Public;

First of all, I would like to state how sorry, how scared, and how panicked I am due to all these events that have taken place. Talking about the accident will upset and hurt the victims and their families more than it will me and my family. However, I am solely responsible for my son taking my car out that day without our knowledge, and I accept this.

As a mother, I should have taken all necessary precautions to prevent this situation from happening. However, unfortunately, not everything written is true; my son did not flee after the incident, on the contrary, he helped the people who came to the scene to assist, and ambulances and teams had already been called, but I was very scared afterwards.

I cannot lie; as a mother, I wanted to take him abroad until I understood what happened, fearing whether my son would be assaulted or if something would happen to him, and after we went abroad, I spoke with my ex-husband, Timur's father Bülent, to ensure that all the injured and victims were taken care of.

When we left the country, we did not even know that one of the victims had died, and when we learned this, yes, no matter what we do, this pain is indescribable and cannot be eased, but we immediately tried to contact the family. As for Timur, he has been crying every day since the moment of the incident, saying, 'Please let us return to Turkey and let me face whatever my punishment is; I have torn a family apart.' He never had any intention of staying here or escaping these accusations.

But please understand my maternal instinct. I did not collect people's phones at the scene; these are not true. I am very, very sorry. All the children there are our children too, and the family of our brother who died in the accident is our family too. We will return, do the right thing, and surrender to justice. I sincerely apologize to the entire public, both on my own behalf and on behalf of my son.
