Public transport is free in Istanbul today
On October 6, buses, subways, Metrobüs, Marmaray, and sea lines will provide free service in Istanbul; the policy is valid with a personalized Istanbulkart.
Public transport will be free in the city today to mark the 103rd anniversary of the liberation of Istanbul from enemy occupation. Throughout Tuesday, October 6, Istanbul residents will be able to use designated public transport vehicles free of charge.
The free transport policy covers buses, Metrobüs lines, subway and tram services, funicular and cable car lines, City Lines ferries, and Marmaray services.
To benefit from the free transit provided on public holidays and special days such as the city's liberation anniversary, the Istanbulkart must be personalized.
It was stated that the standard fare tariff will continue to apply to transit made with non-personalized anonymous Istanbulkarts, tourist cards, and temporary tickets.
