Reaction from ÇYDD to Minister Tunç: 'Sharia' has no place in a modern state and society
The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) has reacted to the statements made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç regarding a video published on YouTube by Diamond Tema.
In the association's statement, it was said, "Sharia is the transformation of religion into a political and public regime through interpretation; 'Sharia,' which is interpreted and applied differently in every society, every sect, and every order, has no place and will not have a place in today's modern state and society structure."
"SHARIA HAS NO PLACE IN A MODERN STATE STRUCTURE"
ÇYDD issued a written statement regarding Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç's remarks about Diamond Tema. The post shared on the association's social media account is as follows:
“Following a broadcast on YouTube where the subject of Sharia was discussed in recent days, it was announced to the public that an investigation had been initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and an arrest warrant had been issued for speaker Diamond Tema, who criticized the Sharia order with examples, in a statement made by Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç.
It has been observed that targeting posts made on social media accounts were influential in the initiation of the investigation.
In the Republic of Turkey, which is a secular state as per the provision of Article 2 of the Constitution, the duty of the Minister of Justice is not to protect Sharia, but to ensure the implementation of the constitution and laws, and to protect the rule of law. It is absolutely unacceptable to initiate an investigation against a speaker who explains the dangers and harms of the Sharia regime with examples, while not initiating an investigation against a speaker who targets the constitutional order by advocating for Sharia in the same broadcast.
Sharia is the transformation of religion into a political and public regime through interpretation; 'Sharia,' which is interpreted and applied differently in every society, every sect, and every order, has no place and will not have a place in today's modern state and society structure.
As the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living, we will continue to increase our struggle to protect the gains of the secular Republic, which we have been carrying out for 35 years."
