Reason for Nasuh Mahruki's arrest revealed

The justification for the arrest of former AKUT President Nasuh Mahruki, who was detained and subsequently arrested after criticizing statements made by Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chairman Ahmet Yener regarding electronic voting, alleged that his posts were "capable of disturbing public peace."

It was observed that the Istanbul 5th Criminal Court of Peace also took into account the content of the posts and the number of views they received in its arrest decision.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Renowned mountaineer, author, and AKUT founder Nasuh Mahruki, who criticized YSK Chairman Ahmet Yener's statements on electronic voting in a social media post and faced an investigation for "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "publicly insulting judicial bodies," was arrested yesterday.

Mahruki, who announced on November 12 that police had come to his home, stated in his testimony at the courthouse yesterday morning that his intention was "...to point out that the electronic voting system is risky for our country in terms of conducting fair and honest elections, taking into account our experiences with elections held in previous years in our country and the environment of distrust created by elections held with electronic counting systems worldwide."
