Scandalous defense from parents who let their 3-year-old child smoke! 'It was a moment of distraction'

Footage of a 4-year-old child allegedly smoking while in their mother's lap during a wedding ceremony organized in the Emek neighborhood of the Odunpazarı district recently became a trending topic on social media. The Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident. The mother in question, S.B., was taken into custody and referred to the courthouse after her procedures at the police station. S.B. was released by the duty court under judicial control. Additionally, the court requested a report for the child from the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services.

"WE ARE NOT PEOPLE WHO USE CIGARETTES WITHIN THE FAMILY"

The child's father, Özcan Başar, used the following expressions regarding this situation:

"I am at this age now and I have never consumed alcohol or cigarettes. I had gone to my uncle's wedding; guests were drinking alcohol there, and I was with them. While my wife was watching the bride, our child in her lap somehow got a cigarette from somewhere. We do not understand how the situation reached this point. We are not even people who use cigarettes within our own family. I told the police officers that they could perform a nicotine test on me; I do not use cigarettes. We did not give the cigarette to them. I have three children, and I have never encountered such an incident with any of them. This child is only four years old and does not understand these things; they picked it up in a moment of carelessness. It was something that happened in the crowd due to a moment of distraction. My wife is inside giving her statement. Our child's psychology has been damaged because of this situation."
