Sentences of generals who were victims of the frame-up case lifted

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has lifted the remaining sentences of 14 convicts, including former generals Çevik Bir, Çetin Doğan, Erol Özkasnak, Fevzi Türkeri, Yıldırım Türker, Cevat Temel Özkaynak, and Aydan Erol, who were victims of the February 28 case.

Erdoğan's decision to lift the remaining sentences of the 14 convicts due to chronic illness and old age has been published in the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, the remaining sentences of former generals Çevik Bir, Çetin Doğan, Fevzi Türkeri, retired Lieutenant General Yıldırım Türker, retired Vice Admiral Aydan Erol, and retired Major Generals Erol Özkasnak and Cevat Temel Özkaynak, who were victims of the February 28 case, were lifted due to chronic illness and old age.

On the other hand, the sentences of convicts Haci Sülük, Ali Efteraslan, Avni Yılmaz, Sevda Yüksel, Gülbey Sarıoğlu, Süleyman Tuna, and Abdulhekim Yılmaz were pardoned for the same reasons.

The remaining sentences of the convicts were lifted in accordance with the provisions of the 16th paragraph of Article 104 of the Constitution, due to the Forensic Medicine Institute report stating that they fall under the scope of chronic illness, disability, and old age.

ÇETİN DOĞAN'S REPORT HAD BEEN WAITING FOR SIGNATURE FOR A YEAR

Retired General Çetin Doğan was hospitalized on March 1 due to health problems.

The 84-year-old Doğan was discharged from the hospital on April 22 and sent back to prison.

Çetin Doğan's report for 'chronic illness and old age' had been waiting for President Erdoğan's signature for a year.
