Statement like an appeal from lawyer Toğrul for Narin's arrested uncle: 'Not sufficient concrete evidence'

Seda Toğrul, the lawyer for uncle S.G., who was arrested in connection with the case of missing Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, stated, "The evidence cited for the arrest of my client Salim Güran, as far as it has been reflected in the press, is the DNA sample in the vehicle and the deletion of WhatsApp messages. This is not sufficient concrete evidence for an arrest. It is a normal situation for a niece to ride in her uncle's car."

Statement like an appeal from lawyer Toğrul for Narin's arrested uncle: 'Not sufficient concrete evidence'

The investigation into the case of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who has been missing since August 21, continues.

Seda Toğrul, the lawyer for the arrested uncle S.G., stated in a written statement that the evidence cited for the arrest of her client Salim Güran, as far as it has been reflected in the press, was the DNA sample in the vehicle and the deletion of WhatsApp messages.

Lawyer Toğrul said, "This is not sufficient concrete evidence for an arrest. It is a normal situation for a niece to ride in her uncle's car. Furthermore, a DNA sample can remain for 1 to 6 months depending on the type of material and where it is found. Moreover, the 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation has established precedents that set a benchmark on this matter.

It is against the law to refer the case for intentional homicide when there is no body belonging to Narin.

Reminding of the presumption of innocence based on the current evidence, it is possible that our client may be released in the future based on available evidence. We also want the material truth to be revealed.

Narin is the child of all of Turkey. We are also making efforts to ensure that those who reached out to her are uncovered. We believe that my client was arrested due to intense public pressure, especially on social media.

We will file an objection to the arrest decision, requesting his release under judicial control. This statement has become necessary within the scope of the presumption of innocence and the right not to be stigmatized.

Due to the confidentiality order, this is all we can say for now. We invite the entire public to remain calm due to this sensitive issue until the investigation is completed. Because the family is also in a devastated state due to this highly sensitive matter. We submit this to your attention," she stated.

S.G. was taken into custody on August 31 as part of the investigation conducted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

S.G., who was referred to the prosecutor's office today with an extended detention period, was referred to the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest after his statement.

The judgeship arrested S.G. on the grounds of "intentional homicide" and "deprivation of liberty" and sent him to prison.
