Tanju Özcan reacts to 'caliphate flag' incident from a legal perspective
Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan shared a post regarding Ege Akersoy, who was arrested for punching a person carrying a caliphate flag. Özcan stated that the arrest was an exaggerated political reaction.
Ege Akersoy was arrested after punching a person leaving the "Mercy to our Martyrs, Support for Palestine, Curse on Israel" march held in Istanbul yesterday, after saying, "This is Turkey, you cannot unfurl a caliphate flag. You are Arab lovers."
This punching incident and the subsequent arrest were widely discussed, especially on social media. While many figures made statements regarding the event, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan also voiced his reaction.
In a post on his social media account, Özcan used the following expressions:
"Our brother Ege made a wrong move. He was arrested for this with an exaggerated political reaction.
Well, is it normal that no legal action was taken against the degenerate who 'slapped' Ege right in front of the police, or the Arab lover who was showing off with a green flag in his hand? What you are doing has no place in positive law, let alone in Sharia law.
The wheel turns, the handle turns, one day the reckoning will come.'
