The home of master writer Orhan Kemal is for sale: Here is the price tag...

The two-story house where Orhan Kemal, one of the most important names in Turkish literature, lived as a tenant between 1954 and 1966 in the Cibali neighborhood of Istanbul's Fatih district, has been put up for sale by its owner. 'For sale' signs have been hung on the exterior of the house. It is known that Orhan Kemal penned approximately 35 of his works in this house.

THE PRICE OF THE HOUSE IS 10 MILLION LIRAS

The sale price of the house was set at 10 million liras three months ago. During this period, potential buyers interested in the house have emerged not only from Istanbul but also from different cities such as Ankara and Antalya. This two-story structure, which is also the house where Orhan Kemal's son Işık Öğütçü was born, holds historical and cultural value for literature enthusiasts and collectors.

"IT COULD BE A LIBRARY OR A WORKSHOP"

Orhan Kemal's son, Işık Öğütçü, stated, "There is the highest authority, the Presidency, the Ministry of Culture, or even another ministry, the Ministry of Trade, could step in. It could be an Orhan Kemal house again; perhaps it could be decorated with pictures of Orhan Kemal, as there are photographs taken in that house. Photographs could be placed outside for a beautiful display. It could be a library or a workshop dedicated to children," he said.

Öğütçü added, "The Fatih Municipality, thank you to them, did some maintenance and painting on the building. I provided the information for the building, and they placed a plaque saying 'Orhan Kemal lived here.' During that process, when I visited the mayor to thank him, I asked, 'Can they acquire the house as a cultural heritage? Can the Fatih Municipality evaluate it in this way?' They said, 'Let us look into it,' but nothing came of it. In this recent period, I have spoken with various authorities. I have spoken with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), the Governor's Office, and the Fatih Municipality. At the point we have reached today, I learned about it from the press as well. There are advertisements; they have put the house up for sale, and I was very surprised."
