The photo that marked May 1st: Taksim under blockade captured from the air
Taksim Square and Istiklal Avenue, where workers were banned from gathering on May 1st and where strict measures made it impossible for even a bird to fly, were captured from the air. Teams closed off the Taksim Republic Monument and the streets leading to Taksim Square with iron barriers.
On May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day, strict security measures are being implemented in Taksim Square and its surroundings, as well as in Saraçhane Square, where meetings and protest marches are not permitted.
The Istanbul Police Department has taken intensive security measures around Taksim Square.
Teams have closed off the Taksim Republic Monument and the streets leading to Taksim Square with iron barriers.
Furthermore, teams have established checkpoints at certain access points to the square and are not allowing civilians to enter.
POLICE TEAMS STAND GUARD
On the other hand, all avenues and streets opening onto Istiklal Avenue from the square down to Tünel have been closed off with iron barriers. Police teams are standing guard at the head of every avenue and street.
Passage is not permitted except for shopkeepers and tourists on Istiklal Avenue. Additionally, traffic teams are standing by on all roads and intersections leading to Taksim.
