Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan made statements regarding the rental crisis in Turkey.

Erkan said, "There is an increase in rents unique to Turkey. Our President and Vice President are also focusing heavily on this issue. One person should not have 10 houses; 10 people should have one house. Housing and food are very important. Our state solved the issue of healthcare a long time ago.

Can Istanbul be more expensive than Manhattan? We couldn't find a house in Istanbul. It is incredibly expensive. We moved in with my parents and are staying with them," she said.

Journalist Sevilay Yılman revealed the real reason behind Hafize Gaye Erkan moving in with her mother, which sparked public debate following her statements.

'FOR THE CARE OF HER BABY...'

Yılman stated, "There is only one reason why Hafize Gaye Erkan moved into her mother's house; as far as I know, her husband is still in the USA, but she has a small baby, and living with her family for the baby's care is a decision she made with her husband from the very beginning."

Continuing her remarks, Yılman said, "Even if the rents of houses in Istanbul were more expensive than Manhattan, Erkan has more than enough purchasing power. This is never a situation that would be a problem for her."
