They held a liver party in Parliament! Statement from AKP's Kepolu: 'There is no ostentation in this treat'

During the 2024 budget negotiations at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), AKP Diyarbakır MP Suna Kepolu had a mobile stall set up in the garden of the TBMM Members' restaurant and served liver.

Following criticism from some MPs, primarily on social media, the AKP member Kepolu made statements via her X account.

"I AM THE DAUGHTER OF A CHIEFTAIN"

Kepolu stated the following:

"I am the daughter of Mahmut AĞA, from a family well-known to the people of Diyarbakır, who have remained centuries away from ostentation. During the budget negotiations in Parliament, I wanted to offer a treat, just as MPs from every party do.

Although my scheduled day for the treat was Tuesday at 18:00, we postponed our treat to the following day, Wednesday at 14:00, due to a distinguished MP falling ill at the parliamentary podium.

We made our preparations to serve the geographically indicated products of our Diyarbakır, covering all party groups and parliamentary staff.

"THERE IS NO OSTENTATION"

There is no ostentation or showiness in this treat we provided. There is the hospitality unique to the people of this country, and as a person from Diyarbakır, I naturally attended to almost everyone personally, as required by our respect for guests.

I was also very happy that all party groups accepted our invitation. Although no such claim was made, I will say it anyway: contrary to the intentional reports attempted to be implied on social media and in some press outlets, not a single penny of public funds was involved in this.

Everyone knows that my character and nobility would not allow such a thing. I deemed it appropriate to present this within the framework of respect to the citizens and friends who criticized it in good faith without being aware of the issue."
