TKH takes action against the 'Newborn Gang' scandal: Criminal complaint filed against five ministers, four of them former

The Communist Movement of Turkey (TKH) has filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against former Health Ministers Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, Recep Akdağ, Ahmet Demircan, Fahrettin Koca, and current Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, alleging negligence in the health scandal known to the public as the "Newborn Gang," under the charges of misconduct in office, failure to report a crime, destruction, concealment, or alteration of evidence, neglect of duty, disclosure of confidential information related to duty, and aiding and abetting a criminal.

While General Chair Aysel Tekerek filed the criminal complaint on behalf of the TKH, the following statements were included in the explanation of the petition:

“1- The crimes committed by the health ministers against whom we have filed a complaint were effective and decisive in all the actions of the individuals known to the public as the 'Newborn Gang,' which is the greatest health scandal in our country's history, which has caused the deaths of dozens of newborn babies—though the exact number is still unclear—and which has engaged in organized qualified fraud by defrauding the public and individuals.

2- Even though the aforementioned gang members are currently being tried, there is no investigation regarding those we have complained about. However, it has emerged both in the Turkish Grand National Assembly records and in the public eye that private hospital authorities and qualified fraud in private hospitals were reported to the ministers while health services were being carried out. It has been revealed that the ministers did not fulfill the requirements of these notifications.

3- As revealed in the testimonies of those being tried in the 'Newborn Gang' case, it has emerged that the ministers not only acted with negligence but also voluntarily protected those involved in the crime, covered up the crimes, failed to take preventive measures, conducted inspections only on paper, and at times, warned private hospitals in advance.”
