Turkish Airlines resumes flights to Benghazi after 10 years

A Turkish Airlines (THY) aircraft departed from Istanbul Airport in the morning for the flight to the Libyan city of Benghazi, which has been resumed after a 10-year break. Passengers on the plane, which landed at Benina International Airport in Benghazi after a flight of approximately 2.5 hours, were welcomed with flowers. Speaking at the ceremony held at the airport, THY General Manager Bilal Ekşi said they were happy to have resumed flights to Benghazi.

Stating that THY is the airline that flies to the most countries and international destinations in the world with 352 destinations in 131 countries across 6 continents, Ekşi said, "Within the framework of our mission to build bridges between people, countries, and continents, we offer our passengers constant opportunities to discover new places. We are tirelessly looking for new points where we can operate flights all over the world, and we are connecting countries and peoples."

FLIGHTS WILL OPERATE 3 DAYS A WEEK

Expressing that they are happy to connect passengers in Benghazi to the world with flights that will operate 3 times a week, Ekşi said, "Together with our Tripoli flights, which we operate 5 times a week, we have increased our weekly flights in Libya to 8. In the coming period, we will increase both our flight frequencies and the number of destinations we fly to. I hope that the flights we have launched will contribute to Benghazi, the people of the region, and the relations between our countries, and that they will be auspicious."

Stating that as Turkey's flag carrier, they have one of the youngest fleets in the world with 492 aircraft, Ekşi noted the following:

Ambassador Elif Çomoğlu Ülgen, Director General for East and Southern Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, wished that the resumed Benghazi flights would be auspicious.

Following the speeches, a cake was cut and gifts were presented at the ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Fatma Ceren Yazgan, Director General of Migration Policies and Visa Procedures, Turkey's Ambassador to Tripoli Güven Begeç, and many others.

It was stated that the flights will be operated 3 days a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
