Two years since the earthquake: What happened to the contractors sought with red notices?
Two years have passed since the major February 6 earthquakes, yet 16 individuals responsible for buildings that became graves for dozens of people have still not been captured. Among those sought is Hüseyin Yalçın Coşkun, a partner in the Rönesans Rezidans, for whom a red notice has been issued.
Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, more than 50 thousand people lost their lives and over 100 thousand were injured. A total of 518 thousand housing units were destroyed across 11 provinces during the earthquakes.
There are still 16 defendants being sought who were responsible for the construction of buildings that collapsed in the earthquake and caused the deaths of hundreds of people, but who have not yet been captured in the 23 months that have passed.
The buildings that collapsed in the earthquake and the defendants being sought are as follows:
RÖNESANS REZİDANS
Hüseyin Yalçın Coşkun, the static project manager, site supervisor, and company partner of the Rönesans Rezidans in the Antakya district of Hatay, where 269 people lost their lives, is being sought. A red notice was issued for Coşkun, but he has not been captured.
EMLAKBANK HOUSING
Aytaç Kınay, one of the defendants for the Emlakbank 1st Stage Housing in the Antakya district of Hatay, where 169 people lost their lives, is still being sought. An arrest warrant was issued for Kınay, but he could not be found.
FARKLI YAŞAM RENDE SITE
Fevzi Yılmaz, the contractor of the Farklı Yaşam Rende Site in the Antakya district of Hatay, where 121 people lost their lives, and the building owner Hülya Rende, have not been captured despite arrest warrants being issued for them.
BUKET APARTMENT
Egemen Yiğit, the site supervisor of the Buket Apartment in the Antakya district of Hatay, where 94 people lost their lives, has also not been captured despite an arrest warrant being issued for him.
ÜZÜMKENT SITE
Ahmet İşitmen, one of the defendants for the Üzümkent Site in the Besni district of Adıyaman, where 83 people lost their lives, is also being sought. An arrest warrant was issued for Ahmet İşitmen, who was determined to be in England.
YUKARI ŞEHİR COOPERATIVE HOUSES
Şükrü İşitmen, the contractor of the Yukarı Şehir Cooperative Houses in the Besni district of Adıyaman, where 80 people lost their lives, and a former AKP Besni Board member, was initially released under judicial control due to his "sincere statements." Following objections, it was decided on October 22 that Şükrü İşitmen should be re-arrested. However, it was understood that İşitmen had disappeared. An arrest warrant has been issued for İşitmen.
SUEDA KENT SITE
An arrest warrant was issued for Ömer Yılmaz, the site supervisor and static project manager of the Sueda Kent Site in the central district of Adıyaman, where 65 people lost their lives, but he could not be found.
FURKAN APARTMENT
Hasan Hüseyin Sever and Abdullah Devrim Sever, the contractors of the Furkan Apartment in the Nizip district of Gaziantep, where 51 people lost their lives, are still being sought. A red notice was issued for the Sever brothers, but they have not been captured. Abdullah Devrim Sever had been a candidate for Gaziantep MP from the AK Party in 2018 and for Nizip Mayor in 2019.
SAMİ BEY APARTMENT
Abdullah Aybaba and his daughter Eda Aybaba Çelik, the contractors of the Sami Bey Apartment in the Çukurova district of Adana, where 40 people lost their lives, could not be found. It was determined that the father and daughter had fled abroad, but they have not been captured. The Adana 4th High Criminal Court sent a letter to the competent judicial authorities in England for the capture and extradition of the defendant Eda Aybaba Çelik to Turkey, but no progress has been made yet.
EZGİ APARTMENT
35 people lost their lives as a result of the collapse of the Ezgi Apartment in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş. Sami Kervancıoğlu and Mustafa Pekel, the owners of Kervan Patisserie, for whom an indictment was prepared requesting up to 876 years and 6 months of imprisonment each for the crimes of "intentional killing and injury with probable intent" and who have not been found for 479 days, have still not been captured.
KAVAK APARTMENT
Serdar Çelebi Köse, the site supervisor of the Kavak Apartment in the Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, where 26 people lost their lives, could not be found despite an arrest warrant being issued for him.
GÖZDE APARTMENT
Kamil Çöçeli, one of the defendants for the Gözde Apartment in the İslahiye district of Gaziantep, where 25 people lost their lives, could not be found despite an arrest warrant being issued for him.
