Uncollected trash in Gaza poses a danger
In Gaza, under Israeli blockade, trash that cannot be collected due to the risk of airstrikes is increasing the risk of an epidemic.
Due to Israel's ongoing attacks for 18 days, public services in the Gaza Strip have come to a standstill. As municipal trucks are unable to collect trash due to the risk of being targeted, garbage is piling up in the streets and in areas near residential settlements. The resulting piles of trash are increasing the risk of an epidemic in the conflict-ridden region, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.
"THE INABILITY TO COLLECT TRASH IS A MAJOR PROBLEM"
Dr. Hatem Al-Ghamri, the mayor of Maghazi in the central Gaza Strip, stated that truck drivers are unable to perform their duties to avoid becoming targets of Israeli airstrikes. Ghamri said, "The inability to collect trash is a major problem that will lead to the spread of diseases and increase the suffering of the people."
Ghamri noted that makeshift trash collection sites have been established, but these are located close to residential areas.
