US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israeli-Palestinian Affairs resigns
Andrew Miller, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israeli-Palestinian Affairs, has resigned from his post.
Andrew Miller, who served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Israeli-Palestinian affairs at the United States (US) Department of State, has resigned from his position.
According to a report by The Washington Post, Andrew Miller explained to his colleagues that the current conflict, which began in October, has been all-consuming, and that he is leaving his job because he has seen little of his family.
Miller stated that if he did not have personal responsibilities, he would have preferred to stay in his job and fight for the things he believes in, including areas where he disagreed with the administration.
“A supporter of Palestine”
According to a report by the US channel CNN International, Miller played a key role in the executive order issued in February that included sanctions on numerous Israeli settlers who attacked Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Miller is known as a principled supporter of Palestinian rights and statehood.
Previously a senior policy advisor to US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Miller served as the director for Egypt and Israel military affairs at the White House National Security Council during the Barack Obama administration between 2014 and 2017.
In addition to this, Major Harrison Mann, who worked at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) under the US Department of Defense (Pentagon), had announced his resignation due to his country's "unconditional support" for Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip. US airman Aaron Bushnell lost his life in February after protesting his country's support for Israel by setting himself on fire in front of the Israeli Embassy in Washington.
