Resignations in MHP following Bahçeli's Öcalan call: Shared on social media

Following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call regarding PKK leader Öcalan—stating, "Let the isolation be lifted, let the terrorist leader come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting. Let him declare that terrorism has ended, and then let him apply for the right to hope"—a wave of membership cancellations has begun within the MHP.

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli made a striking call regarding Öcalan during his party's group meeting.

In his statement, Bahçeli said, "Let the isolation be lifted, let the terrorist leader come and speak at the DEM Party group meeting. Let him declare that terrorism has ended, and then let him apply for the right to hope. I challenge you! We are ready for this," which drew significant criticism from the political community.

REACTIONS CAME ONE AFTER ANOTHER

Reactions came one after another from figures including Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ, İYİ Party leader Müsavat Dervişoğlu, Ayyüce Türkeş—the daughter of MHP's founding leader Alparslan Türkeş—and Ankara MP Koray Aydın.

THE CALL WAS ALSO MET WITH REACTION FROM MHP MEMBERS

This call, which resonated widely within the nationalist front, also angered many MHP members. Although MHP İstanbul MP Feti Yıldız explained the term "right to hope" used by Bahçeli for PKK leader Öcalan by stating, "This concept is used to express the right of a convict sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment to expect to be released one day," it was not enough to convince MHP members.

Many MHP-affiliated nationalists reported that they terminated their political party memberships via e-Devlet following Bahçeli's call. They shared photos of their membership cancellations on their social media accounts.
