Yediot Ahronot: Crisis of confidence between Netanyahu and the Israeli army
The newspaper Yediot Ahronot reported that there is a crisis of confidence between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli army. The report stated, "It is said that Netanyahu believes the responsibility for everything that has happened lies with high-ranking Israeli military officials and that he is angry with them."
The Israeli press reported that Benjamin Netanyahu and the Israeli army are experiencing a crisis of confidence, which is making it difficult to reach joint decisions in the Gaza war.
In a report citing Israeli political and military officials, the newspaper Yediot Ahronot wrote that as the ground operation in Gaza approaches, a stalemate has been reached regarding the Israeli hostages held by Hamas, and thatthe government is having difficulty reaching a consensus on fundamental issues.
ANGRY AT THE ARMY
The report stated, "It is said that Netanyahu believes the senior Israeli military officials are responsible for everything that has happened (the attacks launched by Hamas against Israel on October 7) and is angry with them," the report stated.
Following Hamas's release of two American hostages on October 20, the report noted that the U.S. wants to see progress regarding the other hostages, and for this reason, the U.S. administration is pressuring Israel to delay the ground operation into Gaza.
According to the newspaper's report, U.S. President Joe Biden believes thatdealing with the hostage issue is a higher priority than all other actions, including the ground operation.
A WAY TO SHIFT RESPONSIBILITY
In the statement made yesterday by Israeli Army Spokesperson Daniel Hagari, "We will move to the next phase (ground operation) in line with the decision of the political leadership" the report noted, adding that "This is a way for senior officials in the Israeli army to shift the responsibility for decision-making to the government, especially to the Prime Minister" was the assessment provided.
The report further pointed out that "aside from the debate over the timing of the ground operation, a crisis of confidence has emerged between Netanyahu and the Israeli army," stating that this crisis "constitutes additional damage on top of the major harm inflicted on Israel on October 7."
