Yılmaz Tunç announces: Bad news for those sharing TUSAŞ attack footage

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that investigations will be launched against those who share footage of the armed attack carried out against Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ).

Tunç said, "There were 30 people identified in 9 provinces regarding social media posts, and investigations will be launched against them. Investigations will also be launched against those who share the hostage-style footage, and they will be followed up. The fight against disinformation on social media continues. Recently, access to quite a few accounts has been blocked. Twitter has implemented court orders. They previously had a resistance to not implementing them, but they have started to implement them recently," he said.

'IT WILL BE A QUITE COMPREHENSIVE PACKAGE'

Touching upon the work on the 10th Judicial Package, Minister Tunç said, "We have completed the Judicial Reform Strategy Document. The President will announce it in the coming days. The 9th Judicial Package will likely be discussed in the General Assembly this week. In the 10th Judicial Package, there will be some cancellations made by the Constitutional Court. The first package we will prepare after the Judicial Reform Strategy Document is announced will be about our penal legislation. There is a perception of impunity in probation; there is no prison time for crimes under 2 years. Also, we are formulating the reasons for arrest in the Criminal Procedure Code regarding the disruption of public order, the way the crime was committed, etc. There are crimes that cause discomfort in society; such as the violation of traffic safety. Those who change lanes in traffic, unlicensed weapons under Law No. 6136, the lower and upper limits of crimes in the penal legislation regarding them can be re-evaluated in particular. It will be a quite comprehensive package," he said.

"THOSE WHO RECEIVE SENTENCES UNDER 2 YEARS SHOULD STAY IN PRISON FOR A WHILE"

Noting that steps will be taken to accelerate trial processes following the Judicial Reform Strategy Document, Minister Tunç also said that regulations regarding probation will be made.

Minister Tunç said, "Since probation is fixed at 1 year, those who receive a 2-year sentence have 1 year of conditional release and 1 year of probation, meaning they have no prison time. Let's introduce a ratio here; so that those under 2 years should also stay in prison for a while. Those who receive a 1-month sentence stay less, those who receive 2 and 3 months stay a little longer, so when probation is fixed at 1 year, criminals under 2 years do not receive any punishment at all. Also, when the actual crime occurs, the main public outrage occurs regarding the reason for arrest. In terms of deterrence, it must take into account all these factors such as the way the crime that disrupts public order was committed and the defendant's past tendency to commit crimes. There will be a regulation that allows for this," he said.

When asked about the release of those with multiple criminal files, Minister Tunç said, "The situation I mentioned above will also solve those. In addition, it is necessary to ensure that the criminal record can also be seen by the prosecutor. The prosecutor only sees the criminal record; it is necessary to allow them to see the GBT (General Information Gathering) as well," he said.

WHAT HAPPENED?

A terrorist act took place at the TUSAŞ facilities in Ankara. Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya described the incident as a terrorist attack in his statement immediately after the attack. A large-scale operation had been launched at the facility.
