CHP demands increase in higher education scholarships: 'Our youth are dropping out of school due to lack of money'
University students are among the groups most affected by the high cost of living and difficult economic conditions. While the scholarship and loan amount was set at 3,000 liras this year, students did not find this amount sufficient. CHP members gathered in front of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to demand an increase in higher education scholarships.
CHP Deputy Chairperson Sevgi Kılıç demanded an increase in higher education scholarships in a statement made in front of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Stating that the loan and scholarship provided to students was announced as 3,000 liras and that it is impossible to live on this money, Kılıç said, "This is essentially saying 'if you don't have money, don't study.' Our bright youth are dropping out of school due to lack of money."
"UNIVERSITY DOORS ARE CLOSED TO THE POOR"
Kılıç argued that "the government is taking away the right to education from poor youth and that the doors of universities are closing to these young people," and demanded an increase in higher education scholarships.
Stating that student dormitories are also insufficient, that the government denies youth housing under humane conditions, and that graduates are seeking solutions by going abroad because they cannot find jobs, Kılıç stated that 27 out of every 100 young people under the age of 30 are outside of education and employment.
Claiming that the government has not abolished interviews despite its promises, and that young people who are successful in exams are being eliminated during interviews when applying for jobs, Kılıç said, "This government is a government that does not provide education and job opportunities to its youth. The job of this government is to give everything to its cronies and steal the hope of the people's children."
