Attention high electricity consumers: Bills will change starting February 1st!

An important regulation regarding electricity bills is coming into effect as of February 1, 2025. Subscribers whose monthly electricity consumption exceeds 417 kWh will receive electricity services based on actual costs. This regulation will only affect 3 percent of total subscribers, which is approximately 1.2 million households. There will be no changes to the bills of the remaining 97 percent.

WHO WILL BE AFFECTED?

The new tariff targets only high-consumption electricity subscribers. Residences paying an electricity bill of over 1,050 TL per month and commercial establishments paying over 5,000 TL will be affected by the new regulation. For example, a household currently paying 1,050 TL could see their bill rise to as much as 2,000 TL.

WILL LOW-CONSUMPTION SUBSCRIBERS BE AFFECTED?

Since the average home's electricity consumption is around 414 TL per month, the vast majority will not be affected by this regulation. Those using high-energy-consuming appliances may face higher costs, especially during summer months when devices like air conditioners are used heavily.

TREASURY SUPPORT TO BE REMOVED

Another important detail of the regulation is the removal of the 50 billion TL support provided by the Treasury. High-consumption subscribers will now pay electricity bills based on actual costs without state support.

Residences paying an electricity bill of 1,000 TL or more will be able to switch to more favorable tariffs by entering into a free consumer agreement with electricity companies. In this way, high-consumption subscribers may have the chance to reduce their bills to some extent.

WHO WILL BE EXEMPT FROM THE NEW REGULATION?

Some special subscribers will be exempt from the new tariff. Institutions serving the public, such as mosques, cemevis, and AFAD shelter centers, will continue to pay bills based on their current tariffs.

WHEN WILL BILLS RISE?

The new regulation will be officially implemented as of February 1. High-consumption subscribers will face higher electricity bills starting from this date.

Energy conservation is becoming even more important with this regulation. Households with high electricity consumption may look for ways to reduce their consumption to benefit from lower-cost tariffs.
