Good news from the SSI for workers and employers: Premium refund details announced
The Social Security Institution has announced the conditions for premium refunds for insured individuals who cannot complete their premium days for retirement.
Insured individuals who have reached retirement age but have not been able to reach the sufficient number of premium days will be able to get back a portion of the premiums they have paid. The SSI has established specific conditions and procedures regarding this matter. In particular, it will also be possible to receive a refund for premiums that exceed the earnings limit subject to premiums. However, it has been noted that many insured individuals are unaware of this right.
The SSI has set the following conditions for insured individuals who can receive a premium refund:
Employees under SSK (4/1-a): The 9 percent retirement premium share falling to the worker will be refunded.
Self-employed under Bağ-Kur (4/1-b): The 20 percent premiums paid for disability, old-age, and death insurance can be reclaimed.

PREMIUMS THAT WILL NOT BE REFUNDED
It has been stated that General Health Insurance (GSS) and Unemployment Insurance premiums will not be included in the scope of refunds. For insured individuals who receive high salaries or work for more than one employer, premiums exceeding the earnings limit subject to premiums can be reclaimed. However, in this case, only the premiums falling to the worker's share are refunded; premiums paid by the employer are not returned.
Foreign national employees can also receive a premium refund if they do not complete the retirement conditions in Turkey. For this, men must have reached the age of 60 and women the age of 58. Foreign employees can request a premium refund by applying to the SSI through the social security institutions in their own countries.
Applications for premium refunds are made in writing to the Social Security Center or provincial directorates to which the insured is affiliated. The premiums to be refunded are updated from the date they were paid and are paid to the beneficiaries in a lump sum.
If your premium days for retirement are missing or if you have premium payments that exceed the earnings limit subject to premiums, it is possible for you to receive a premium refund from the SSI.
