July diesel price hike exceeds 25%: Price hikes on everything from A to Z!

The rapid rise in diesel prices in July has increased costs not only for vehicle owners but also for the production, agriculture, and transportation chains. On the European side of Istanbul, the price per liter of diesel, which was 64.57 TL on July 1, reached 80.97 TL as of July 31.

Thus, an increase of 16.40 TL per liter was recorded in diesel in one month. While the monthly price hike rate was 25.4 percent, the price per liter of gasoline rose from 62.29 TL to 67.18 TL in the same period. The increase rate in gasoline remained at 7.9 percent.

DIESEL INCREASE GROWS PRODUCTION COSTS

Diesel is one of the primary inputs, especially for agricultural machinery, transport vehicles, and logistics operations. For this reason, the increase reflected at the pump is expected to directly affect the cost chain extending from the field to the market shelf.

The rise in prices was influenced by the increase in global oil prices, the depreciation of the Turkish Lira, and tax regulations in the domestic market. The gradual phasing out of the Eşel Mobil system, which was previously used to limit cost increases in fuel, led to the increases being reflected directly in pump prices.

The agricultural sector is among the areas most affected by the increase in diesel costs. Diesel fuel is used in many stages from plowing the soil to planting, irrigation, and harvesting. The price hike that came during the harvest season further burdened the producer's fuel expenses.

According to calculations in the source, a combine harvester consumes approximately 0.9 to 2 liters of diesel per decare, which pushed the producer's fuel cost alone from the 70-90 TL band to the 120-150 TL band per decare. A significant portion of the combine harvester harvest fee, which is set at 310 TL per decare, now consists of diesel expenses.
