New fuel price hike: Gasoline prices hit record high

A new increase in fuel prices has taken effect. The 3.20 TL hike in the price per liter of gasoline was reflected in pump prices as of Saturday, September 12, 2026.

With the hike, the price per liter of gasoline rose to 80.12 TL in Istanbul. The price per liter reached 81.25 TL in Ankara and 81.52 TL in Izmir. Thus, the 80 TL threshold for gasoline has been exceeded in all three major cities.

While it is noted that gasoline prices in eastern provinces have reached as high as 82.88 TL, it is stated that fuel prices may show minor variations depending on the city, district, and station.

The price increase is driven by activity in oil markets and fluctuations in exchange rates. According to information from the source, the renewed escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, disruptions in ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and a decrease in oil shipments have created pressure on global prices.

In addition to oil and exchange rate movements, tax regulations also play a role in determining fuel prices. One of the recent high-amount increases in gasoline occurred on September 4; at that time, a 2.57 TL hike was applied to the price per liter of gasoline, and approximately 7.79 TL to diesel.
