The Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) has released the results of its Food Price Index (TEGE) for the October 2026 period. According to data compiled between October 1 and 25, food prices rose by 2.59 percent compared to the previous month.
During the same period, annual food inflation was calculated at 29.9 percent. Thus, the annual increase in food prices has approached the 30 percent threshold.
In October, the products with the highest price increases in the fresh fruit and vegetable group were tomatoes, other fresh pepper varieties, and cucumbers. Conversely, lemons, apples, and pears/quinces were among the products with the sharpest price declines.
Notable price movements were also observed in products other than fresh fruits and vegetables. Spices, almond kernels, and white meat salami stood out with price increases, while declines were recorded in hazelnut kernels, sunflower seeds, and lentils.
According to the TRNC Food Price Index prepared by TEPAV for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, food prices in the same period increased by 2.08 percent monthly. Annual food inflation in the TRNC was calculated at 35 percent.
With these figures, annual food inflation in the TRNC was 5.1 percentage points higher than the 29.9 percent rate announced for Turkey.
