Claims had emerged that Asma al-Assad would leave Bashar al-Assad: Official statement from the Kremlin

The Kremlin has responded to claims that Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syria's former leader Bashar al-Assad, wants to divorce and move to London.

It was alleged that Asma al-Assad, the wife of Syria's ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, wants a divorce. It was stated that Asma al-Assad has applied to a court in Russia and requested special permission to leave Moscow. It was reported that her application is currently being evaluated by Russian authorities.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, in his statement, said that the reports regarding Asma al-Assad wanting a divorce “do not correspond with the facts.” Peskov also denied claims that the Assad family's assets had been frozen.

HAVE RESTRICTIONS BEEN IMPOSED ON ASSAD?

Opposition forces in Syria toppled the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, and Assad and his family fled to Russia. Although their asylum request was accepted by Russia, it is stated that Assad and his family are subject to serious restrictions and are not permitted to leave Moscow or engage in any political activity.

It had also been alleged that all of Assad's assets in Russia were frozen following his arrival. It is stated that Assad possesses 270 kilograms of gold, 2 billion dollars in cash, and 18 apartments in Moscow.

London-born British-Syrian dual citizen Asma al-Assad moved to Syria in 2000 at the age of 25 and married Bashar al-Assad.
