Bashar al-Assad's soldiers returned to Syria

Bashar al-Assad's soldiers returned to Syria

The Iraqi Security Media Cell stated in a post on the X social media platform that 1,905 soldiers loyal to Assad were handed over to the Syrian side at the Al-Qaim Border Crossing after they benefited from an amnesty issued by Syrian authorities.

The statement noted that written commitments were obtained from the soldiers regarding their return to their families before they departed, and it was stated that the weapons in the possession of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense would also be handed over to the new Syrian government to be established.

Approximately 2,000 soldiers loyal to the ousted Syrian regime had fled to Iraq via the Al-Qaim Border Crossing on December 7.
