Demand for green passports is rising: Number of legislative proposals in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey reaches 19

Many professional groups, from pharmacists to journalists, and from truck drivers to faculty members, are demanding green passports. The number of legislative proposals submitted to the Parliament on this issue has risen to 19.

Various professional groups, including pharmacists, journalists, truck drivers, town mayors, certified public accountants, judges and prosecutors, civil servants with disabilities, night watchmen, village headmen (muhtars), prison guards, doctors working in the private sector, theater artists, faculty members, TBMM advisors, and union officials, are awaiting a legislative change to become eligible for green passports.

According to a report in Sözcü newspaper, legislative proposals prepared by the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the Democrat Party (DP), the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA), the New Welfare Party (YRP), and the IYI Party provide for the issuance of green passports to these professional groups.

If these legislative proposals are accepted, the issuance of green passports to at least 800 thousand more people, including spouses and children, will come to the agenda. Currently, 1 million 200 thousand people in Turkey hold green passports.

Across Turkey, there are 50 thousand village heads (muhtars), 29 thousand night watchmen, 68 thousand correctional officers (prison guards), 3 thousand union officials, 3 thousand journalists with 15 years of seniority, 18 thousand pharmacists, and 16 thousand judges and prosecutors.

Meanwhile, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior are approaching these new demands with caution, fearing that European countries may also impose visa requirements on green passports.
