Gallipoli's favorite: Cheese halva receives geographical indication registration
Cheese halva produced in the Gallipoli district of Çanakkale has been registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office with a geographical indication.
Gallipoli Chamber of Agriculture President Erkan Kaya stated in a written statement that the initiative they launched with producer Süleyman Burak Batır on October 17, 2023, for the registration of the halva has yielded positive results.
Emphasizing that the geographical indication registration is an important development for Gallipoli, Kaya expressed the following:
"Obtaining the geographical indication for Gallipoli cheese halva means not only protecting a flavor but also recognizing the value of our region's cultural heritage and agricultural products.
Achieving this success after a long process offers a great opportunity for us to promote the richness and quality of our region more effectively on national and international platforms. Furthermore, as this is the first geographical indication for Gallipoli, securing this registration is also a great source of pride for us."
Batır also stated that they are proud to have concluded the work they carried out to have the cheese halva registered as a "geographical indication."
