Native to Southeast Asian countries: Rambutan
Rambutan is native to Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, but it is also grown in other parts of the world, including Africa and Hawaii.
The fruit of the rambutan has a sweet, slightly tart taste and a grape-like texture.
In size, it resembles a small kiwi fruit and hides a small pit inside. Its skin is red and covered in spikes. This fruit contains a range of nutrients, including vitamin C and manganese.
It is easy to find rambutans in certain parts of the world such as Malaysia and Indonesia, but they can be extremely difficult to find in other regions.
THE SKIN AND PIT SHOULD NOT BE EATEN
They spoil quite quickly; you can only find them fresh or canned in specialty stores.
Avoid eating the skin and the pit of the fruit.
It is a great snack on its own, but it also goes well as a tropical addition to ice cream, fruit salads, cheese platters, or your next smoothie or yogurt breakfast bowl.
