What is béchamel sauce and how is it prepared?

Béchamel sauce, or by its original name Sauce béchamel, is a white culinary sauce of French origin.

It pairs well with root vegetables, eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli, and leeks.

HOW IS BÉCHAMEL SAUCE MADE?

  • Place 2 tablespoons of butter in a pan and set the stove to the lowest heat.
  • Once the butter begins to melt, add the flour and start roasting it.
  • When the flour changes color very slightly and begins to smell, add the milk little by little.
  • Continue adding the milk while whisking quickly. Once you have added all the milk, season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg.
  • Cook the sauce over low heat, stirring until it leaves a trail in the pan as shown in the photo, then remove from the heat.
  • Use it hot or cold.
