Tofu is a type of vegan cheese made from soy milk. Tofu is formed by curdling soy milk with the addition of lemon or vinegar. Made using soy milk, tofu is known as a fat-free cheese due to its high protein content. It is known for adapting to almost any dish and appealing to different palates. Here is what you need to know about tofu…

HOW IS TOFU MADE?

You can buy tofu ready-made or make it yourself at home. For this, the only ingredients you need are soy milk, lemon, and water. You can use store-bought soy milk for tofu, or you can prepare it yourself from soybeans. To do this, it is enough to soak the soybeans in water, then crush them with a blender and strain them. Lemon or vinegar is necessary to ensure curd formation.

HOW TO MAKE TOFU AT HOME?

Place 1 liter of soy milk on the stove and stir until it starts to boil. After it cools down, add half a tea glass of lemon juice. Stir while adding the lemon juice. At this point, you will see the milk curdling just like cottage cheese. Then, strain it through a cheesecloth to separate the curds from the water. Place a weight on top of the portion remaining in the cheesecloth. You can use something like a jar or a pot. You can keep the time short for soft tofu cheese, and keep the weight on longer for firm tofu cheese. You can add a little salt to the tofu, place it in a container or jar, and store it in the refrigerator.
