Japanese scientists: New coronavirus variant spreading rapidly
Since April 2024, the number of coronavirus cases has been rising rapidly in many countries. Recently, a noticeable increase in a new variant of the coronavirus has doctors concerned.
According to the results of a study conducted by Japanese researchers on data from Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Spain, and France regarding KP.3.1.1, the latest variant appears to be less lethal than previous versions.
Researchers state that KP.3.1.1 has a significantly higher transmission potential than its predecessors, KP.2, KP.2.3, and KP.3.
Scientists also examined its transmissibility and the response to immune system antibodies. According to the information obtained, KP.3.1.1 has higher transmissibility and lower sensitivity to defensive antibodies.
