Family Solidarity Network reacts to house search footage in Mersin

The Family Solidarity Network issued a written statement regarding the publication in the press of footage taken during a house search conducted as part of an operation targeting the Mersin Metropolitan, Mezitli, and Yenişehir municipalities.

The statement alleged that filming continued even though the woman who opened the door stated that she was "not presentable." The Family Solidarity Network stated that the publication of the footage in question is unacceptable in terms of both personal rights and the privacy of private life.

The statement said, "We do not accept the fact that, during a dawn operation targeting the Mersin Metropolitan, Mezitli, and Yenişehir Municipalities, footage of a woman in her pajamas who opened the door was taken and leaked to the press."

The statement, which argued that the dissemination of the footage violated the "right not to be stigmatized," used the phrase, "Search warrants cannot be used as a tool for public exposure." The Family Solidarity Network demanded sanctions against those responsible for leaking the footage to the press and for the manner in which the search was conducted.

The statement also drew attention to the presumption of innocence, stating, "The police exist to ensure public safety and order, not to endanger citizens." The Family Solidarity Network announced to the public that they stand with the woman whose footage was published.
