Former DHMI executive Mehmet Cemil Acar, in whose home gold and foreign currency were found, detained again

A new development has occurred regarding former State Airports Authority (DHMI) Department Head Mehmet Cemil Acar, who was released while being tried on charges of "bribery" and "corruption."

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that Acar was detained on September 21, 2026, as part of an investigation conducted into the charge of "laundering assets derived from crime."

It had previously been stated that during a search of Acar's home, 26 kilograms of gold bullion, 1 million 320 thousand dollars, and 121 thousand Euros were seized in a safe.

The Ankara 89th Criminal Court of First Instance had decided to release Acar, taking into account the time he had spent in detention.

In the statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that the investigation is being carried out under the coordination of the Ankara Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch.

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under the coordination of the Ankara Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch on the charge of laundering assets derived from crime, as regulated in Article 282 of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237; former DHMI executive Mehmet Cemil Acar was detained on 21.09.2026, and the investigation in question is continuing meticulously.
