Illegal betting operation in 8 provinces centered in Istanbul: 26 suspects detained
26 people were apprehended in an operation targeting suspects identified as encouraging citizens through illegal betting advertisements.
Within the scope of an investigation coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were conducted in 8 provinces targeting advertising activities that encourage illegal betting.
In the work carried out by the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Combat Branch, it was determined that the suspects directed citizens to illegal betting sites via mass messages sent to their mobile phones.
Investigations revealed that mass messaging panels were used through various lines, primarily those starting with 0850, obtained from companies providing telecommunications services.
Following technical and physical surveillance, operations were carried out in Istanbul, Ankara, Balıkesir, İzmir, Kırıkkale, Muğla, Konya, and Bursa against the suspects whose identities and addresses were determined.
26 suspects were detained in the operations. The suspects were taken to the relevant units for processing at the police station.
