Imamoglu's imprisoned lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan transferred to Kandıra F-Type Prison
It has been announced that Ekrem İmamoğlu's imprisoned lawyer, Mehmet Pehlivan, has been transferred from the prison in Corlu to Kandıra F-Type Prison.
The prison facility of Mehmet Pehlivan, the imprisoned lawyer for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, has been changed. It was reported that Pehlivan was transferred from the Karatepe High-Security Penal Execution Institution in Corlu to Kandıra F-Type Prison.
Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir, who announced the transfer decision on his social media account, stated that the procedure was carried out at night while Pehlivan's hearings were ongoing.
Ekrem İmamoğlu's lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan was transferred in a rush from the well-type prison in Corlu to Kandıra F-Type last night around 03:00, without notifying anyone, while his hearings were still ongoing!
In his post, Emir argued that the transfer was carried out "as if smuggling goods from a fire," stating that the practice constitutes a violation of the prohibition of torture and ill-treatment, as well as the right to defense and a fair trial.
Murat Emir called on lawyers, bar associations, and professional chambers to react to Pehlivan's situation. Emir concluded his statement with the words, "Defense is a right, it cannot be silenced."
