Investigation launched into the documentary "Şeytantepe" concerning the Narin Güran case

The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a documentary titled "Şeytantepe," which covers the investigation and trial processes regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran.

It was stated that the investigation was initiated upon the application of the Diyarbakır Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Gendarmerie Criminal Investigation Team (JASAT). The application alleged that the documentary aimed to discredit the investigation and prosecution processes in the Narin Güran case, and that it targeted judicial decisions, the gendarmerie personnel involved in the investigation, and judicial authorities.

It was learned that within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, individuals involved in the filming, production, and financing processes of the documentary will be examined; furthermore, financial transactions between these individuals will also be investigated.

Narin Güran went missing on August 21, 2024, in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of the central Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, and her lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024.

In the trial regarding the murder of Narin Güran, her mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran were each sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity." Nevzat Bahtiyar was initially sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime."

Following the Court of Cassation's 1st Criminal Chamber's reversal of the 4-year-and-6-month prison sentence given to Bahtiyar on the grounds that it should be evaluated within the scope of "aiding in the crime of qualified intentional killing," Bahtiyar was sentenced to 17 years in prison during the retrial.
