Legal process initiated regarding the handcuffing of Deniz Göktaş behind his back
Following the images of comedian Deniz Göktaş being handcuffed behind his back while in custody, which were reflected in the press, a judicial process has been initiated; lawyer Ömer Meşe has filed a criminal complaint regarding the practice.
The images of comedian Deniz Göktaş, who was taken into custody and subsequently arrested and sent to prison following an investigation into his show titled 'Ölü Deniz' (Dead Sea), being handcuffed behind his back had become a trending topic on social media.
Lawyer Ömer Meşe has taken legal action regarding the treatment Göktaş faced while being taken into custody.
According to the report by Rengin Temoçin from Cumhuriyet, the criminal complaint petition submitted to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office emphasized that the application of handcuffs behind the back to Deniz Göktaş was unlawful. The petition also requested that an investigation be opened against the Istanbul Police Department personnel who shared these images with the public and were involved in the practice, on charges of "torture," "persecution," and "exceeding the authority to use force."
The lawyer stated that the actions and conduct of the relevant police personnel increased the sensitivity not only of Göktaş but also of the public, and announced that he would follow the process from a legal perspective.
With this criminal complaint, a new judicial process has begun regarding the legality of the methods used during detention and the responsibility of public officials.
