Manisa Saruhanlı Public Prosecutor arrested in bribery investigation
Prosecutor B.G., who was suspended by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) as part of an investigation into allegations of interference in certain judicial processes in Istanbul, has been sent to prison.
Manisa Saruhanlı Public Prosecutor B.G. has been arrested as part of an investigation into allegations that certain lawsuits and investigations in Istanbul were interfered with in exchange for financial gain.
In the investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, charges of "accepting bribes," "giving bribes," "mediating bribery," and "establishing, managing, and being a member of a criminal organization" were examined. B.G., who previously served in Istanbul and most recently worked as a Public Prosecutor in Manisa Saruhanlı, was granted investigation permission by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) and was subsequently suspended.
According to the allegations in the file, it was claimed that B.G. was in contact with Hüseyin Avni Sipahi, the former Deputy Mayor who was arrested in 2022 as part of a bribery and extortion operation targeting Beşiktaş Municipality officials.
The investigation file also included the allegation that B.G. leaked confidential information and details of the investigation to Sipahi in advance in exchange for the benefits provided.
After being processed at the police station, B.G. was referred to the Bakırköy Courthouse and, following questioning by the prosecutor, was brought before the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace. The court decided to arrest B.G. on charges of "mediating bribery" and "knowingly and willingly aiding an organization." B.G. was sent to prison following the decision.
