Arrest request for renowned filmmaker Koray Kesik

Filmmaker Koray Kesik, who was taken into custody, has been referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for his arrest without his statement being taken by the prosecutor's office. Kesik is accused of membership in an organization in connection with the documentary Bakûr, for which he served as director of photography.

Arrest request for renowned filmmaker Koray Kesik

The detention period of documentary filmmaker Koray Kesik, who was taken into custody during a police raid on his home in Izmir on the night of May 2, has been extended for 24 hours for the third time.

The MLSA Legal Unit, which is handling Kesik's defense, reported that the director's statement has still not been taken and it is unknown whether it will be taken today.

Having completed his third day in custody, Kesik held a meeting with Attorney Fatih Aydın from the MLSA Legal Unit after the 24-hour ban on meeting with his lawyer expired.

NO INFORMATION ON CHARGES

It was stated that Kesik is in good health. There is no information regarding the charges directed at Kesik in the investigation file, which is subject to a confidentiality order. Digital materials containing Kesik's documentary work have been seized.

OBJECTION TO DETENTION DECISION

The MLSA Legal Unit has filed an objection to the confidentiality and seizure orders, as well as the detention decision. The MLSA Legal Unit is present in Izmir to support Kesik.

Kesik has been referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for his arrest without his statement being taken by the prosecutor's office.
