Cem Karaca's son Emrah Karaca, on his X account, made striking remarks about his father's wife İlkim Karaca .

'WE PROTECTED IT, BUT SHE SOLD IT!'

Karaca stated, "There is an incredible theft involved! Take two more examples... These fur hats are heirlooms from my great-grandfather, over 100 years old. She sold these too. Unfortunately, I cannot find the words to describe this evil without using profanity... We protected and kept this inheritance safe while my father was in exile, but she sold it! She actually sold it!" he said.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, had applied to the Istanbul Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights Court to halt the screening of the film 'Cem Karaca's Tears,' which is based on the artist's life.

Accepting the request, the court decided to halt the screening of the film, which was released on January 26, 2024.

Speaking after the injunction was issued, Emrah Karaca said, "We are going through an interesting process. We are truly saddened to be facing such a situation in the first week of our release, following a magnificent premiere for a film that had so much effort put into it and received almost full marks from everyone who attended the premiere and all the viewers who went to the cinema from the very first day."

'IT WOULD HAVE HURT CEM DEEPLY'

Cem Karaca's wife, İlkim Karaca, made the following statements to 12punto in recent weeks:

"I have a sensitivity toward ensuring that events are conveyed accurately. As his wife and legal heir, being ignored in an important film project about Cem's life has saddened me..."

'I FIND IT DISRESPECTFUL'

Responding to the question, "Is it ethical to make a film about someone after their death?" Karaca said, "If it is done by obtaining permission from the legal heirs of the deceased, why not? However, I do not find an approach that says, 'I did it and it's done, I do not recognize the laws, the legal system, or the legal heirs of the deceased' without obtaining permission to be correct. In fact, I find such an approach disrespectful and disloyal."
