Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year events: Kicked off with a Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra concert

Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year events: Kicked off with a Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra concert

The "2024 Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Year" events began in Istanbul with a Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra concert.

Speaking at the opening of the concert held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) Türk Telekom Opera Hall, Peter Hoppal, State Secretary at the Hungarian Ministry of Culture and Innovation, said, "The cultural year will provide us with the opportunity to mutually get to know our cultures better and further strengthen our friendship."

Hoppal stated that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary, Hungary will hold over 100 events in Turkey throughout the year, and that Turkey's cultural treasures will simultaneously be promoted in Hungary.

During the concert, the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra performed well-known works by world-renowned Hungarian composers Zoltan Kodaly and Bela Bartok, as well as Ahmet Adnan Saygun's Symphony No. 5.

EXHIBITION OPENING HELD

Prior to the concert, the "Hungarians in the Construction of Turkey" exhibition, which highlights the contributions of Hungarians in various fields from architecture to music and engineering to agriculture during the founding years of the Republic of Turkey, was opened.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Judit Hammerstein, Director of the Hungarian National Museum, said, "Tonight, we will commemorate the Hungarians who won the hearts and affection of the Turkish people, who contributed to the construction of Turkey and to education, and who came to learn."

The exhibition, organized in cooperation with the Hungarian National Museum and the Liszt Institute Hungarian Cultural Center, can be visited at the AKM until February 4.
