Jeff Koons' miniature sculptures are being sent to the Moon: 'It will be the first artwork on the Moon, I am honored'
125 miniature Moon sculptures prepared by Jeff Koons as part of his 'Moon Phases' project will be launched to the Moon from NASA's space center in Florida. The artist stated regarding the project, "I am honored to have the first authorized artwork on the Moon."
World-renowned sculptor Jeff Koons' 125 one-inch miniature Moon sculptures, part of his Moon Phases project, will be sent to the Moon today from Cape Canaveral at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The sculptures, which will be launched on a Nova-C (Odysseus) lander via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, hold the distinction of being the first authorized artworks to be placed on the Moon in human history.
Koons' statement regarding the sculptures' journey to the Moon is as follows:
"The lander will carry 125 one-inch miniature Moon sculptures, each representing a phase of the Moon and each associated with a person from various fields and time periods who has had a significant impact on human life on Earth, such as Mozart, Galileo, Cleopatra, and Leonardo da Vinci."

'I AM PROUD'
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), sculptor Koons stated, "I am honored and proud to have the first authorized artwork on the Moon."
