Journalist and author Selma Selçuker has passed away
Journalist and author Selma Selçuker, a member of the Journalists Association of Turkey, has passed away at the age of 96.
Journalist and author Selma Selçuker, a member of the Journalists Association of Turkey (TGC) and a permanent press card holder, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
The TGC Board of Directors issued a message of condolence following the death of Selma Selçuker.
'WE ARE DEEPLY SADDENED'
The message stated, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our member Selma Selçuker, who served the journalism profession successfully for many years. We extend our condolences to our colleague's family and our press community."
Selma Selçuker's funeral will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, following the afternoon prayer at Üsküdar Şakirin Mosque, and she will be laid to rest in Karacaahmet Cemetery.
WHO IS SELMA SELÇUKER?
She was born in Istanbul in 1928. She graduated from the Department of Journalism at Istanbul University's Faculty of Economics. She published the newspaper Dünyanın Sesi for many years.
Selma Selçuker's articles were published in various newspapers and magazines. Her "Sound Archive," one of her special interests, includes important writers and artists such as Haldun Taner, Elif Naci, Süreyya Ağaoğlu, Safiye Ayla, Füreya Koral, Bedia Muvahhit, and Vasfı Rıza Zobu. In addition to her journalism, Selma Selçuker was a member of many foundations and associations.
Attracting attention with her articles that addressed Atatürk and his values from multiple perspectives, Selçuker expressed her feelings for the founder of the Republic in a book on the 75th anniversary of the Republic. Her published books include Damlayan Hatıralar (Dripping Memories), Yan Çizenler (The Sidesteppers), and Usta Gazetecilerle Kahve Sohbetleri (Coffee Conversations with Master Journalists).
She received a plaque of appreciation from the TGC for her contributions to the Press Museum. She held a permanent press card.
