Journalist Osman Arolat has passed away
BREAKING NEWS... Economic journalist Osman Arolat (80) has passed away at the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
Journalist Osman Arolat, who had been writing for the Ekonomi Gazetesi for some time, has passed away.
Osman Saffet Arolat, who had been receiving treatment at Koç University Hospital since Sunday, October 22, saw his condition worsen around 04:30 last night. Despite all interventions, Arolat could not be saved and passed away at the age of 80.
The following statement was issued by the newspaper:
"Our painful loss... We are deeply saddened by the loss of our newspaper's chief editor, Osman Arolat. We extend our condolences to his family and loved ones."
WHO IS OSMAN AROLAT?
Osman Saffet Arolat completed his primary and secondary education in Ankara and graduated from the Journalism Institute of the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University. During his university years, he was involved in youth movements.
He participated in protests, prepared brochures and posters, and published union newspapers. Having started his journalism career in his high school years, he worked at every level of the profession and became one of its symbolic figures. He began his journalism career as an amateur at the Öncü newspaper in Ankara in 1962. For a period, he served as the editor-in-chief of the ANT magazine. He was tried and arrested due to his writings.
For many years, he worked in news agency reporting, foreign radio correspondence, and television. He served as the editor-in-chief at Dünya Gazetesi. Most recently, he took part in the establishment of the Ekonomi newspaper and continued to serve as its chief editor.
Osman Saffet Arolat, who compiled his memoirs in the book series "My Babıâli Memoirs" and "Memoirs of a Youth Leader," remained closely interested in Turkish and world politics through his writings until his last breath.
