Karsu Dönmez, a musician and daughter of a family that migrated to the Netherlands in 1990 from the village of Karsu in Hatay—one of the provinces that suffered the greatest destruction in the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş—visited her hometown on the first anniversary of the disaster of the century.

The artist, who lost 17 relatives in the earthquake, is preparing to open a music school that will be available for public use in the Serinyol Neighborhood of Antakya, Hatay, through the Karsu Foundation she established.

The famous singer experienced a great shock when she went to the street where the house of her grandmother, whom she lost in the earthquake, once stood.

'I FOUND HER PLATES'

Seeing the pieces of her grandmother's broken plates on the plot of the demolished house, Karsu expressed her feelings in a post on her Instagram account, stating the following:

"I just found my grandmother's plates. In my memories, I can still see the çökelek, tray kebab, and künefe served on these plates."

Karsu Dönmez's grandmother passed away a few days after being pulled from the rubble with injuries.
