Mark Ruffalo: Palestinians are being offered the choice to 'die in your home'
World-renowned actor Mark Ruffalo criticized Israel's ground offensive in Rafah, stating that Palestinians are being offered the choice to "die in the desert or in their homes."
American actor Mark Ruffalo shared a statement on his X account from United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) spokesperson James Elder regarding the city of Rafah in Gaza, which is under Israeli attacks.
In his post, Ruffalo drew attention to the urgent need for aid for children in Gaza and people in Rafah, noting that those in Rafah are being sent to 'concentration camps' where they are subjected to neglect and persecution.
Ruffalo used the expression, "The choice offered to Palestinians today is: 'die in the desert or die in your home'."
The Israeli army announced yesterday morning that it had launched a ground offensive in the Rafah region and had seized the Palestinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing, which connects Gaza to Egypt.
'WE NEED A CEASEFIRE'
Following this announcement, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said, "We need a ceasefire now for the children in Rafah."
Elder noted that Rafah is 'a city of children' and that more than half of the children in Gaza are living there.
Pointing out that the basic standard of living in Rafah is extremely poor, UNICEF spokesperson Elder stated, "In Rafah, there is one toilet for every 850 people. If the Rafah Border Crossing remains closed for a long time, it is hard to see how famine in Gaza can be prevented."
Stating that a large amount of aid must enter Gaza, Elder said, "Rafah should not be invaded, children should no longer be killed. We need a ceasefire now for the children in Rafah."
