Markiz Patisserie, one of the symbols of Istanbul, has a 200-year history under the name 'Lebon' and an 80-year history under the name 'Markiz'.
The historic patisserie, which holds an important place in the city's memory, closed in 2013 due to economic reasons.
REOPENING
It has been stated that the patisserie, which was recently purchased by the owners of Narmanlı Han, Tekin Esen and Mehmet Erkul, has entered a comprehensive restoration process and will reopen within this year.
ABOUT MARKIZ PATISSERIE
It is a historic patisserie located on Istiklal Avenue in Beyoğlu. It was opened in 1940 under the name Markiz by Avedis Ohanyan Çakır, who planned to produce goods with the quality of the Marquis de Sevigne chocolate company based in Paris.
Like Lebon across the street, it became a preferred venue for writers and Istanbul's new bourgeoisie. This interest was due as much to its architectural layout and decoration as it was to the quality of its environment and products.
In the early 1970s, the building housing the patisserie was put up for sale and purchased by an auto parts dealer. The objections raised and the struggles waged were to no avail, and Markiz closed 35 years ago, in 1980.
Avedis Ohanyan Çakır could not bear the sorrow and passed away shortly thereafter.
Markiz Patisserie reopened on December 23, 2003.
However, it closed once again in 2013.
